Royal Hawaiian Hotel, island of Oahu
The Royal
Hawaiian is my favorite hotel in Waikiki. It's fondly known as the
"Pink Palace of the Pacific."
The Royal Hawaiian has 528 rooms and is managed by Sheraton, part of the
Starwood group of hotels. It's at 2259 Kalakaua Avenue, adjacent to
the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Phone (808) 923-7311.
This is one of the few Waikiki hotels that is right on the beach, not
across the street from the beach like most of the others. And there's
great dining indoors or out, three meals a day, in the Surf Room. If
you like buffets, don't miss the daily breakfast, Sunday brunch, and Friday
seafood buffet.
Although the Royal Hawaiian is one of the oldest hotels on Waikiki Beach,
it is kept up in excellent condition. It is shockingly pink on the
outside, and the pink theme is carried inside the rooms with pink towels,
pink sheets and lush pink robes for guests. For the true feel of this
old gem, I suggest staying in the Historic Building rather than in the newer
Royal Tower.
If you are looking for elegant luxury inside and out, in the best
location in Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiian is the place to stay.
