Kauai is the Garden
Isle. It is the oldest of the six major Hawaiian islands.
Because of its age, it is more eroded and more lush and green than the
others. It has less relatively new stark black lava than the others.
Kauai is home to the Fern Grotto, which you get to on a boat ride on the
only significant river in the state of Hawaii, even if you spell it Hawii.
Kauai has more open spaces and less residents and tourists than Oahu or
Maui, but it also has less restaurants, less shopping, and less to do.

My advice? If your idea of a Hawaiian vacation is peace and quiet
and beautiful scenery, and if you don't feel the need for a lot of
activities or great restaurants, then spend four to seven days of your visit
on the island of Kauai. For the rest of your trip, consider each of the
islands discussed on the other pages of this website:
